          Crawford County
Remarks:  the Soil is generally fertile, and is well adapted to farming or grazing purposes, but the greater part is better suited for grazing than the production of grain  Beds of calcouous marl are found in this county which is used to considerable extent as a fertilizing agent.  The wo[cut-off] is slightly impregnated with Lime, Sulpher & Iron.  There is abundance of Sandstone, Slate, conglomerate, with small quantities of Lime Stone.  B[cut-off;itu?]minous coal and iron ore are also found.  The year previous to the first of June /50 has not been marked by the prevalence of any particular disease or epidemic; on the contrary, the county has been remarkably healthy.  Among the Timber of Natural growth in this County may be [cut-off; enume?]rated the following, viz.: Oak, 8; varieties[?] Pine, 1; Maple, 3; Hemlock, 1; Sarcher Samrock, 1; Poplar, 2; Beech, 2: birch, 1; Bartwood or Linden, 1; Elm, 3; Ash, 4; Hickory, 3; Sycamore, 1; Walnut, 2; Chestnut, 1; Cucumber, 1; Cherry, 2; Sasafras, 1; Ironwood, 1.
