Origins: Charles Peck purchased the land from Daniel McBride in 1815, and was selling lots at least by 1832.  Centreville P.O. established 1817.  Shown as Centreville on the 1816, 1839, 1848, and 1865 county maps.1
14 April 1865 Incorporated as Centerville [not "Centreville"] from Rome Twp. 2
Decree[d] that the said town of Centerville be incorporated into a Borough in conformity with the prayer of the petitoners, that the corporate style and title shall be "the Borough of Centerville," and that the boundaries thereof shall be as set out in the accompanying diagram.
